When the enamel on your teeth wears away it is not replaced. Enamel erosion exposes the soft tissue layer (dentin) and tooth roots. When you eat ice cream or have a hot drink the exposed dentin allows temperatures to reach inside your tooth which triggers pain and sensitivity.
There are many ways enamel can be eroded but a dental visit can determine the cause. Sometimes repairing a broken tooth or damaged filling can solve the problem. If the cause is gum disease or teeth grinding, dentists can discuss treatment and offer advice.
– Visit your dentist for an examination
– Brush gently using a soft bristled toothbrush
– Use a desensitizing toothpaste
Tooth nerve pain is nothing to smile about. Your dentist can identify the problem and offer solutions.
“Tooth sensitivity happens as a result of enamel damage, therefore exposing the softer tissues of the tooth.”
